Trip to Milwaukee - 105th Anniversary Celebration - Day 1

Day one of our trip we headed straight for the sand dunes of western Michigan. Stopping to visit Tony Packos (of Klinger fame in M.A.S.H) then onto some relatives in the Brighton Michigan area for a quick beer!
Tony Packos - Toledo Ohio
A quick beer with Brother DaveOn to the DUNES!!!!!!
Here are some shots of the approach to the Silver Lakes Sand Dunes on the Western Edge of Lake Michigan - Silver Lake Dunes cover an area 3.5 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, it is impressive and can not be captured in these photos. I visited these dunes as a kid and did the Mac Woods tour which was a lot more risky and exciting back in the 60's before cautious lawyers got involved in the whole national mindset.
On the road in Northern Michigan. Steve Rod - in the mirror
1st sight of the Dunes - Off in the distant.
Getting closer - you can see the dunes and the Crossbones down the road.
closer yet you can see that they are taller than the trees!!

Here is a Google satellite map of the Dunes themselves. You can see that they have cut off a section of Lake Michigan to form Silver Lake.

To the far right of this shot you can see the Dunes edge - where it is about 6 feet from swallowing yet another cottage. They say the dunes will eventually fill in Silver Lake.

I saved your map link for another time. WE were going to ride to Michigan after the 105th but we were with slow riders and could not make the time (it happens)!!!
