2009 Challenger

The original Challenger. And the retro/modern version of today.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet! The Challenger was not at the De-Troy-it auto show, but it did make an appearance at the Cleveland Auto Show (billed as biggest in NA) Sq Ft wise. Anyway, it was a big show and included antiques, classics, muscle cars, funny cars, tuners, and even a display of about a dozen and a half Harley Davidson Motorcycles and the Big Rig HD Semi. Well you have to know that this Blogger was in heaven.

Just Fred (Long but worth it) Monday Morning Funny

A cop stops a Harley for speeding. So he asks the biker his name. "Fred," he replies. "Fred what?" the officer asks. "Just Fred," the man says.

The officer is in a good mood and thinks he might just give the biker a break on a ticket. The officer then presses him for the last name. The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it.

The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it. "Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?"

The biker replies, "It's a long story, so stay with me. I was born Fred Dingaling. I know -- a funny last name.

The kids used to tease me all the time. So I stayed to myself, studied hard and got good grades. When I got older I realized that I wanted to be a doctor.

I went through college, medical, school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Dingaling, MD.

After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school.

Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through school, got my degree, so then I was Fred Dingaling, MD, DDS. Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD. So now I was Fred Dingaling, MD, DDS, with VD.

Well the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. Then I was Fred Dingaling, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Dingaling with VD. Then the VD took away my Dingaling, so now I am just Fred."

The officer walked away in tears, laughing.

Pontiac Solstice coupe to become production reality

This is what the 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe will look like. Pretty Sweet! Now that I am enjoying the beautiful Grey Skies of Great Lake Living up here in CLE, this makes more sense than the convertible model. Pictures are courtesy of Auto Week Daily on line.
Looks sort-of Astin-porshe-jaguar-slick

Daytona Bikeweek 2008

OK, I have been chastised for my Bike Week Pics ..... so I try to tame the posts a little and I get calls from members of my Male Reading Audience saying that my Posts are a little lame. What am I too do? Here are some more pics from Daytona......OK are you happy now MIKE??
1) Main Street mid-day
2) Honda Tent - Jimmy "Rides Rice" (had to go see it with the "Rice Rider") We are working on old Jimmy, soon he will convert to the dark side and ride a Harley Davidson. His son has made the switch and Jim is not far behind. I would wager that by Daytona 2009 Jim is no longer "Ridin Rice"
3) Main street beer stand for those thirsty bikers.
4) Broken Spoke Saloon outdoor biker bar complete with Pole Barn Buildings (see post of Mar 7th for complete details) and Rock Bands.
5) Sport Bike Rider
6) Sport Bike Rider seeing that we are looking ..... we did not ask for it .... it just happened!!

Chilean Sea Bass -Vs- Toothfish

In honor of St Patty's Day I am having a meal of Green Fish as seen below. I ate a dyn-o-mite corn beef Sandwich for lunch so tonight .................................. Fish it is!!!
I did some research on Chilean Sea Bass, as I remember an article in the Wall Street Journal several years ago Proclaiming the "Toothfish to Chilean Sea Bass" brand transformation a major success. Since the name change there is even a fear of over fishing the poor critter.

I have added my own comments to the official publication below in Green.
Why is this fish called Chilean sea bass? (Because no one would eat an ugly fish like this with a name like Fillet of Toothfish with a side of Garlic Mashed) Chilean sea bass is a deep-water species also known as tooth fish, caught in southern ocean waters near and around Antarctica. The Chileans were the first (brave enough to eat this ugly mugged creature) to market toothfish commercially in the United States, earning it the name Chilean sea bass, although it is really not a bass (mutant monster) and it is not always caught in Chilean waters (sometimes it lurks in the bushes and under crawl spaces). It is a different species type than the sea bass caught in U.S. waters. Because of its white meat appeal, Chilean sea bass usually fetches premium prices in specialty markets and high-end restaurants. It is a deep-water fish that can live up to 50 years and grow to weigh over 200 pounds.
Bon Apetite!!! How can such an UGLY fish end up as a PRETTY dish?

Bon Jovi

So Renie and some girlfriends are up in Greensboro, NC rockin to Bon Jovi, While I am freezin my butt off in CLE OH. Here is a photo she took and sent on her phone. She left a message of the band singing some song, not sure which one ...... she sounds like she is having a good time! That's good.

In Florida for the 3rd time this March

I had to attend yet another show in Orlando, although Nicole came to visit me and we vent to Universal Studios, which made it a nice trip. Universal was hot and crowded, due to spring break! I also rented a Harley so Nicole could cruise on the beach over in Daytona. (ha ha). I am now waiting at the Orlando Airport - Heading back to Cleveland for the piles of snow.

SUV - Scooter Utility Vehicle URAL

I blogged earlier about the URAL that we saw at the Cleveland Motorcycle Show ...... Here is a new announcement on the new Russian URAL SUV.

Engageable sidecar driveshaft, just like what NATO uses; extra headlight fits in machine-gun mount; mechanical reverse gear.

Ural's three-wheel SUV. 749-cc, 40-hp, air-cooled, horizontally opposed twin; 739-lb dry weight; 62-mph top speed.COMPETITIVE SET: In a class of its own, with on-demand, two-wheel-drive sidecar.

BASE PRICE: $11,999ON SALE: Now It's heavy and slow, but this Russian bike is virtually indestructible. By engaging two-wheel drive, you can go just about anywhere. From summer ice cream runs to camping expeditions, this is huge retro fun. Many reliability upgrades have been made since the original 1939, BMW-based version. You get a two-year warranty and usually can fix anything with pliers and baling wire. To save $500, buy the Patrol model with shiny paint.

IN OUR OPINION: More retro fun per dollar than anything else on the market.

Amsterdam March 2008

So I took a little heat from some folks on my Post Building Architecture pics from the Daytona Bike Week adventure .......................... anyway here are some REAL architectural beauties from my recent trip to Koln Germany as we went in and out of Schipole Airport in Amsterdam. There is a real beauty in the old canaled streets and the building that have all different facades. I was shooting snapshots as I walked around the entire city.

Post Frame Building (aka Daytona Bike Week)

As most of you know I have always been into woodworking .... part of this woodworking fondness has led me to appreciate different forms of architectural buildings ...... one such style is the Post Frame.

The post-frame building concept is not new. Many pre-historic peoples throughout the world used posts embedded in the ground to fashion sturdy structures for residences and other uses. For centuries ...........................................................................................

Sturgis Rally # 7 - Old Barn PitchFork Fondue

PitchFork Fondue

OK, so lets see, the last blog on Sturgis was in late January, and it was kind of the reason I started this blog (some 113 posts ago) I have not even finished and in less than 2 days I am heading for Daytona Spring Bike Week (actually I am back from BikeWeek in Daytona as evidenced in my last post - bikers don't use day planners so my scheduling is a little Whack). Who ever called me a lame blogger -- take that!!

Back to Sturgis - I am not sure what day I was on at the rally, so I will just post a picture or two and talk from my fading memory. So here we are during the week at the Buffalo Chip Campground, where we signed up for the pitchfork fondue dinner .... which was a steak cooked in a vat of boiling oil on a pitch fork - hence the name. Served with a salad, a baked potato, and some veggies ... maybe green beans. It was not the best steak I have ever ate but it was pretty OK and a refreshing change; better than a corn dog, Italian sausage or some other form of carnival food.

You can plainly see by the lovely building and dining ambiance what they lacked in decor they made up with cheap beer signs and banners.
