and when the tide comes in .........

Well as some of you know ..... I used to work in the outdoor furniture business back in the mid to late 90's. I even offered chase lounges for commercial and residential use but I have never seen a folding chair used quite like this before! I say it is very ingenious on her part, very entertaining for beach goers, however, when the tide comes in and the little sand crabs start frolicking about there may be trouble. OUCH !!!!!! Question for the day - Has anyone ever really use a chair like this before?

Sea Cucumber - Make you strong like BULL

Further Adventures in China - Many of you have seen that I post frequently about my trips to China. I have been going there about 3-4 times a year for the past 4 years, we even vacationed with another couple (one of my good riding buddies & his lovely wife).

During one of my trips to China, Jim & I (Jim is another of my riding buddies) were taking a Chinese customer, his sister, and his sister's girlfriend out to dinner to try and close a deal. So as customary we started drinking Rice Liquor "Baijiu" 100 Proof - 80% Alcohol (Gombey = Drink-up and Empty your glass) and Mr Chu ordered up these huge "Slug Like Creatures" called sea cucumbers. It was like a gelatinous glob of fat served in a brown gravy. Not wanting to offend anyone and in an effort to close the deal Jim & I dug right in eating almost all of mine leaving only a small piece so as to not signal anyone to bring me another. Jim also did his best to eat more than 50% of the jiggling piece of fat.

Were they good? No! is the answer although they are considered by a few billion people a true delicacy and provide male enhance in under 30 minutes (if yours last longer please contact a physician) The sister's girlfriend informed us (she spoke great English and had just returned to China from California) that the sea cucumber would make us very strong. It was not until that evening when we looked it up on the Internet that we realized it was one of those aphrodisiacs. With the looks as demonstrated in the pictures below you would have to get some extreme benefit from eating this ugly thing.

You can even get them To-Go in a convenient travel pack for home use. Don't think so!
PS - Kids, don't try this at home.

2009 Harley Davidson - New Wish List

Here is my new wish list - I am posting to visualize. They say to write down your goals and it helps you achieve them ..................... whatever.

#1 - The New Street Glide to replace the 2006 StreetGlide. Most who know me will say "Why?" it looks just like what you have. And I would say "Yeah but - it has a larger engine, 6-speed transmission, wider rear tire, stronger frame, clear lens, 6 gallon tank and some other cool stuff, reason enough for me to wish.
# 2 - The 2009 Nightster - this is to replace the deep need in my sole for something lighter and fun for work and around town - and the dark customs appeal to me for some reason - is it the blackness of design? Don't know, don't care - just want one.
So that is it for now, unless a CrossBones catches my eye once more.

Ducati DrEaMiNg

OK, I know this is a Harley Blog, however, I am smitten by the look of the new Ducati Monster. Ducati's are supposed to be red - But - I Love The FLAT BLACK MONSTER version below. If I were to buy a sport bike I think this is the one! OH wait - FLHX_Dave just informed me that the 2009 Harley's are out. - Never mind!
What would you ride?

MoTiVaTiOnAl PoStEr - Barack Obama

It seems that I am caught up in these Motivational Posters that are circulating on email. Here is one that I had to read and re-read and it made me laugh out loud. This is not an attack on Barack, but more a parody on politicians as a unique and peculiar "species".

New China - Old China

Another installment of my China trips titled OLD/NEW CHINA. I thought that this would be fitting with the upcoming Olympics.

New China includes a Hooters in Shanghai - Kind of an oxymoron, but yet it exists.

Old China still relies on Bamboo for scaffolding - Check out the guy in the upper left hand corner. Gotta love the bamboo!

117 Stores and Going Strong (sort of) - WHITE CASTLE

I rode my scooter to work the other day and ventured to an auto parts store at lunch time, across the parking lot was a WHITE CASTLE calling my name.

After spending the last few weeks existing on 6" Wheat, Turkey, Veggies, no cheese, no mayo - I though I deserved a # 1 = 4 WC Hamburgers, Fries, Coke & throw in a Bacon Cheese Burger for another $1.11. With something this small how could it hurt?

Well, as I sat on the shiny aluminum furniture and enjoyed a steamy soft burger concoction I reminisced about my youth in Detroit, where we devoured White Castles by the Sack full late in the evening after a night of underage drinking. (do not try this at home) I remember thinking that the shiny stainless steel furniture and tile floors made it easy for cleaning the next morning after a crowd full of drunks the night before - Just open doors on either side of the building - turn on the fire hose and in 30 seconds or less you are ready for another day of flipping burgers. Speaking of Flipping Burgers, I forgot to mention that White Castle Burgers do not have to be flipped. They have a patented square shape with 5 holes in the patty to allow them to cook completely from the one side. Genius!! and oh so delicious.

WHITE CASTLE FUN FACTS: in case you were wondering
1921 The first White Castle opens in Wichita, Kansas.
1930 White Castle hires a food scientist to run tests to determine the nutritional value of White Castle hamburgers. One study involves having a medical student live on nothing but White Castle burgers and water for 13 weeks, with no ill effects reported.
1931 White Castle begins using frozen beef patties and develops a crush-resistant cardboard carton that is specially lined to keep the burgers hot.
1932 White Castle runs the first fast food coupon advertising campaign, offering 5 hamburgers for the price of 2.

1949 Five holes are added to the already uniquely-shaped hamburger patty.

1954 White Castle patents its square hamburger patty with five holes.

1961 White Castle becomes the first hamburger chain to reach the 1 billion in sales mark.

1962 Cheeseburgers are added to the White Castle menu.

1968 The 2 billion in sales mark is achieved.

1986 The Smithereens, a New Jersey rock group, records "White Castle Blues" on its debut album.

1987 Frozen White Castle hamburgers and cheeseburgers are introduced to grocery stores.
So - if you have never tried 4 of these and you are riding or driving by one for the first time - I say stop in and "buy em by the sack"

67th Sturgis Annual Black Hills Motor Classic (Part # 7)

I just received an e-mail from the Chip talking about Sturgis 2008, and it sort of started me thinking that I better finish up my Sturgis 2007 posts before the get too stale. 23 Days - 22 Hours - 15 Minutes - 15 Seconds till Sturgis 2008.
Here are a few more shots from the Bike Week in Sturgis last summer. Don't want to bore you all with all the photos but it's a great way for me to chronicle and capture with a little narrative the riding adventure, and that's what this blog is all about. So here they are:
1) On the Road to Sturgis - Stopping for some breakfast along the way

2) Buffalo Chip Campground - 2,000 miles
and of course the Full Throttle Saloon once again ..................

Happy 4th of July!!!!

R,N,E,W - Happy 4th!! Love you guys!! Miss you Guys!!

Starbucks to close 600 US stores, rein in growth

WOW, who would have thought that Americans could live without $6.00 coffee? A sign of the times I guess, people are choosing to stay home and brew a pot for about 37 cents - rather than driving several miles with $5.00 Gas to sip $6.00 Coffee. I myself will miss the Egg-Log-Nattes. Only 15,626 stores will be left after this. Hope they don't close the Shanghai Starbucks ..... it's a little piece of home when traveling. Have a Latte for 4th of July Celebration!!
Happy 4th of July - by the way !!!!!!!

Hunting & Gathering - Fillin' the Feed Bag - OLD SCHOOL SHOPPING

I can not believe I have written so much about a trip to a market. But as the title says, this is OLD SCHOOL shopping at it's finest. OK - so this is not Hunting & Gathering like in the movie "10,000 BC" where we head out to capture the Great and illusive Woolly Mammoth (great flick b-t-w) but it is as rustic shopping as I have been lately.

This weekend (unlike last) we had a game plan: Cooler in trunk - check, Loaded with Ice - check, 3 large cloth shopping bags with sturdy straps - check, Ready for some serious grub hauling - check. Battery in camera fully charged - check. Empty stomach for mornings graze - check - we are off.As mentioned our plan included grazing our way through the market selecting the perfect mix of ethnic foods to appease the appetite (preventing us from spending to much on everything else) We were after all hunting for the perfect items, stalking the perfect items for the next week's meals.
aaaahhhhh - pork as in HOG - as in the other gray meat, Bacon, Beef Steak, Fish - Snapper (filleted while we shopped) Veggies, Fruits, Spices - from every country imaginable.Banana Nutella - Crepe / Strawberry, Blueberry - Crepe / Chicken, Cheese, Caramelized Onion - Empanada / Coffee / Soda / Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, Stadium mustard on hard roll. All consumed at the market. Ahhhhhhh happiness!!
